Artist Statement

September 2022

Nature offers so much to humanity. As someone captivated by nature, I feel called upon to create work that highlights its beauty. I am simply a man showing his fascination for the natural world and who hopes his work will resonate with viewers to bring about further appreciation for life. Nature is rich and full of vibrant energy; thus, I see the natural world through a colorful lens. The work I create has saturated colors reflecting how I perceive life. My artwork is a window into my mind that interprets how I experience nature.

I recall my youth going to the woods for camping trips with my family. The childhood version of myself would often let my imagination run wild and free, especially when out in nature. Climbing about a pile of mossy boulders would spark the idea of a golem-like creature living in the forest. My creative curiosity would then lead me to consider what it would eat or if it had any friends with other magical creatures hiding in the woods.

Inspiration hits me in many ways, from the breathtaking view of a hiking trip to the strange-looking tree resting alongside a bench. These enchanting scenes and odd figures spark my imagination to create. My work always begins with the sketchbook; I let my thoughts bleed free, resulting in a visual encyclopedia of fantasy and reality. Elements are translated onto canvas, acting as a vessel for me to create a window into a new world. I use acrylics and oils to achieve a thrilling color palette to allure viewers toward my whimsical scenes.

You never know what small image can grow into something far greater. Something small, like a twig, can inspire a grand design or stimulate a meaningful thought. Nature invites us to be our authentic selves, and it has inspired me to experience life and create art. Through my work, I hope viewers gain further appreciation for the natural world and the rich blessings that life has to offer us. I encourage the viewer to look closer into nature and let it fuel their creativity and imagination

Takeaway:

“You never know what small image can grow into something far greater. Something small, like a twig, can inspire a grand design or stimulate a meaningful thought”
